German for students

Online classes A1 to C1 /DSH-preparation

We will provide you with a wide range of digital learning material on our learning platform Moodle and study together in a virtual classroom, supervised by our experienced teachers. You can communicate directly with your docent and the other students in your class and we offer individual correction of your homework and text production.

Requirements:

a pc/laptop/tablet with microphone and camera
stable internet access (preferably LAN) and enough volume of data
course book on levels A1 to B2 (not included in the course fee)

How to sign in:

Please send a mail to our office (pdl@wir-do.de) if you are interested in one of our classes. Make sure you inform our colleagues about the course you want to join and already acquired certificates.
You will receive an email with an invitation for an online placement test.

As soon as you have your test result you can register for a course on your level.

If you want to register for level A1 or if you have a pdL B2 certificate or a DSH 1 certificate a placement test is not necessary.

German language classes for students in Dortmund

You want to study in Germany – we have the right course for you! After a placement test you can start at any level anytime from A1 to C1. Choose to learn the German language at our institute, we'll prepare you perfectly for all exams. On level C1 you will not only get a comprehensive DSH training but we'll also offer you the language skills you need to pass other exams like TestDaF or telc C1 Hochschule.

Due to a long cooperation with the TU Dortmund we know what you need for the DSH test. Right from level A1 we'll provide you with techniques and strategies for reading comprehension, listening comprehension and text production. In case you cannot register for the DSH exam at a university, you can take the telc C1 exam for universities at pdL. The telc C1 certificate is accepted at all German universities.

You'll get to know Dortmund and its surrounding area by excursions to some interesting places around and together we get in touch with German culture and history. We'll visit modern industrial companies, museums or universities and have a good time at one of our pdL-parties.

Sports fans are welcome to our football and table tennis groups to enjoy the activity, meet current and former pdL-students and talk about living and studying in Germany.

pdL confirmations of participation are of course officially accepted for visa extension.

Advisory and tips on how best to start your studies are of course part of our service. And we are good at finding solutions when it comes to problems with your university approval, visa or alike.

German courses for students: A1-A2-B1

These courses cover essential and basic German: grammar, vocabulary, spoken and written German. We will talk about life in Germany, economy, its political and culture. Our classes are intensive, interesting, individual - and fun. You will learn to express your ideas in writing and manage your everyday life using the German language. At the end of B1 you should be able to converse freely in German, even about complex issues.

At PDL you don’t only learn excellent standard German, called Hochdeutsch, but also colloquial speech enabling you to communicate with friends and other students in your leisure time.

German courses for students: B2.1 und B2.2

Intensive courses of the intermediate level qualify you for the DSH preparation in 12 weeks (6 weeks B2.1 and 6 weeks B2.2)

You will learn about how to take notes during listening comprehension, about helpful strategies for students for reading and listening and about how to give a presentation at university. The texts become more demanding and you'll be introduced to German as an academic language. Selected current topics picked from the media will be analyzed and discussed. You'll write more texts of your own with a focus on argumentation.

The grammar training will cover all kinds of task types included in the DSH exams.

At the end of the course first DSH mock tests are carried out and rated.

German courses for students: C1/DSH preparation

pdL's DSH preparation courses have enjoyed best reputation for almost 30 years now. We'll prepare you perfectly for your DSH exam. Each C1 course provides intensive DSH training in grammar, reading comprehension, listening comprehension and text production. This DSH training also includes several 6-lesson units tests structured similar to a DSH exam and is using original DSH test versions.

A unique characteristic of our DSH training is a daily listening comprehension unit, you will find no other language school offering that much practice.

Oral presentations and follow-up discussions are also part of our classes. If you feel like practising your speaking skills even more, you can do that in a small group in one of our communication courses.

As a student in one of our DSH classes you have access to additional exercises and texts on the learning platform "moodle". Feel free to improve your language skills from any place and at any time you like.

If you finish the course successfully you'll receive your C1 certificate. It enables you to submit you application for the DSH test at any German university. We have some DSH test places to offer to extraordinarily successful students.

TestDaF preparation

Systematic preparation on Test DaF with authentic material and practice tests. Intensive training of reading comprehension, listening comprehension, written and verbal expression.

Course content

reading strategies for short texts, newspaper articles, scientific texts
listening strategies for dialogues, interviews, lectures
writing descriptions of diagrams and tables, statements and argumentation
verbal replies to questions, taking position, talking about various topics
means of speech for verbal and written tests
individual discussion of mistakes and text correction

Listening comprehension und communication classroom-based

If you want to be able to speak and understand well, it’s best to train both at the same time! In this course we give you the opportunity to improve your listening comprehension and speaking skills in an intensive training. You will train your word and sentence recognition and pronunciation and practice to spot the important words in a context, make use of better hearing strategies and make notes.

Specific grammar topics like active and passive transformations, relative clauses and participle constructions, conditionals etc are still a bit difficult for you, but you don’t want to join a regular grammar course - why not visit our online workshop where you can concentrate on the aspects that are problematic to you?

Communication

With German skills on level B2 or even C1 you get by very well in everyday life, but sometimes it's still hard for you to follow lively discussions, let alone join them. Or is it that you don't feel capable of reporting spontanously on a topic or giving a lecture?
Our communication classes offer practice in a wide range of contexts. Based on short texts or photos you'll discuss cultural or sociopolitical controversial topics or give a talk on them.

So you already speak good German, yet still face occasional difficulties with grammatical forms already covered in basic and intermediate German courses and would like to take up certain selected topics again and do more exercises?

Or do you require specific grammar preparation for a language exam (Goethe-Zertifikat, TestDaF, ZMP, DSH)? In this course all German grammar from A1 to C1 is recapitulated! For university applicants on an intermediate or higher level. Specific grammatical problems and typical forms of work are introduced

Preparation course for the entrance exam Studienkolleg Bochum

In this course you prepare for the language entrance exam at the Studienkolleg. We offer you intensive training in different language skills like Grammar, reading comprehension, listening comprehension and text production and preparation for the C-test.

A preparation (12 lessons) for the maths test is also included!
